Interestingly, the aforementioned watch also held the record in 2007, when it was sold by Sotheby's Geneva for $2.78 million. This record was held for more than a decade before being surpassed by another Ref.2499 signed by Asprey, then priced at $4 million.
The record-breaking Patek Philippe watch is one of only four Ref.2499 models to be sold at auction, all belonging to a secret anonymous American collector who started collecting rare antique watches 30 years ago after selling his media business. It is believed that this collector has more than 400 watches and now, at the age of 80, he has begun to gradually sell his fortune through Sotheby's and continuously set records throughout the buying and selling sessions.

The watch was created as a result of a conversation between the founder of Richard Mille watchmaker and one of his key partners, formula 1 legend Fernando Alonso, who inspired one of Richard Mille's most be-loved creations, RM 67-02 Fernando Alonso 2020. Both sides are enthusiasts of traditional Japanese art. It took them 4 years to design, develop and release a limited edition of just 75 watches.
The Richard Mille RM 47 Tourbillon watch's spectacular dial is the work of a team of engravers Pierre-Alain Lozeron and painter Valérie Lozeron who took no less than 16 and 9 hours to create the samurai armor entirely by hand.
The dial is decorated with miniature samurai armor that hand-engraved in 3N gold, a material reminiscent of the gold leaf commonly used in Japanese craftsmanship. There is also the Ramon emblem of the Asano samurai clan, once led by the legendary Asano Naganori, a warrior of the late 17th and early 18th centuries. A pair of designed swords cuts across the dial while Maple leaf motif embellished with tian, carbon TPT and polished 3N gold crown.
The Richard Mille RM 47 Tourbillon watch is powered by the newly developed large caliber RM47 movement. It is a manual winding tourbillon movement that has been scaled down to slim line proportions to match the large samurai figure on the dial. The tourbillon and part of the gear train are visible from either side of the case, while the base plate and bezel are made of grade 5 titanium with a black PVD coating which combines corrosion resistance with hardness and an extremely flat surface.
All the fine details are housed in Richard Mille's signature barrel frame with black ceramic bezel and back which is the perfect backdrop to highlight the samurai sculpture above.

Accordingly, there are eight distinct designs (representing each planet) made with both digital and physical versions.
This is the luxury watch and jewelry brand's second foray into the digital Metaverse sector. Jacob & Co. was the first luxury watchmaker to launch an NFT watch which sold for $100,000 at auction in April 2021.
This new Metaverse watch collection is inspired by Benjamin Arabov, CEO of Jacob & Co., who described as “crypto comic culture,” using custom comics and movies to tell the story of the collection's creation.

BVLGARI LAUNCHES THE WORLD'S THINNEST MECHANICAL WATCH
Bvlgari has just celebrated the 10th anniversary of the Octo collection by announcing its eighth world record for the world's thinnest mechanical watch - Bvlgari Octo Finissimo Ultra 1.8 mm - a limited edition of 10 pieces worldwide with a retail price of EUR 400,000.
Bvlgari launches the world's thinnest mechanical watch / ph: Bvlgari
To create the Bvlgari thinnest watch with a thickness of 1.8 mm, the production needed to reach the absolute limit of thinness, and at the same time, it was necessary to design the details so that they were as minimal as possible while still ensuring performance in the harshest of conditions. Bvlgari had to re-engineer the entire watch from the smallest detail – a task that required out-of-the-box manufacturing thinking as they needed to envision and redesign each part, component, structure, and the whole function of the machine.
Particularly, each of the 10 limited editions of the Bvlgari thinnest watch has a different QR code engraved on the surface of the barrel. Each QR code leads the watch owner to an exclusive work of NFT art, ensuring the watch's authenticity and creating a strong connection with its owner. The QR code and NFT artwork are the turning points for Bvlgari to open an exclusive digital ecosystem, starting with the Octo Finissimo Ultra on the Metaverse market in the next few months.
In just a decade, the Octo watch collection has become one of the most extraordinary watchmaking adventures in the 21st century, setting a new standard in contemporary watchmaking. Seven world records, technical power, unique shapes and unrepeatable modern design have made the Bvlgari brand an icon in the history of watchmaking.
This Octo watch collection shows the power of combining Swiss watchmaking with Italian luxury. The first product of this combination was launched in Rome in July 2012 and quickly helped Bvlgari assert its pioneering role through three distinct product lines: Octo L'Originale (2012), Octo Finissimo (2014) and Octo Roma (2017).

The day and month are placed at 12 o'clock, the moon phase has integrated small seconds and is placed at 6 o'clock. The Travel Time feature includes a central 12 o'clock hand for a second time zone and two day/night indicators, one for local time, one for the current time. The layout is a bit different from other watches, but overall, the details work and connect well together.
The new Patek Philippe Annual Calendar Travel Time 5326G-001 watch is powered by the Caliber 31 260 PS QA LU FUS 24H movement. The movement has been updated with a new module for the annual calendar protected by 8 patents from factors related to accuracy, effectiveness, reliability, security to user-friendliness. LATEST WATCH TRENDS FROM WATCHES AND WONDERS GENEVA 2022
The big watch industry event of the year - Watches and Wonders Geneva 2022 has officially ended and it's time to take a look at the most prominent trends that have emerged. 2022 also sees the launch of unique timepieces as Rolex releasing left-handed watches, Grand Seiko with skeleton tourbillon watches. On the other hand, there are many watch brands have created unique timepieces. Below are the notable watch trends from Watches and Wonders Geneva 2022 event.
LATEST WATCH TRENDS FROM WATCHES AND WONDERS GENEVA 2022
1- Luxury sports watch with modern design
High-end watches like the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak and the Patek Philippe Nautilus are in a period of prosperity. And other watch brands are also offering chronographs with some combined features like integrated straps, polygonal motifs, exposed screws and with it a more modern, fashion-oriented look.
Latest watch trends from Watches and Wonders Geneva 2022 / ph: Watches and Wonders
As a trend, "luxury sports watches" are completely different from other trends such as green dials. Watches of the Royal Oak and Nautilus models often have complicated cases and bracelets that have been popular from the start. The finishing of the watch case is said to be an important part of expressing the individuality of each watch brand. All of them are relatively difficult and expensive, and watch makers have to face future challenges.
2- Be-loved titanium watches
This year, watch brands seem to want to launch experimental watches and not towards an unified theme. But the trends noted in recent years are still present: the classic style, the green color is still be-loved, the bronze watches are still released.
Latest watch trends from Watches and Wonders Geneva 2022 / ph: Watches and Wonders
However, it must be noted that a new trend is emerging that is titanium material is becoming prominent and is predicted by many watch experts to continue to popular next year. Although it is not a new material in watchmaking, it is perhaps gaining popularity with more watch brands than ever before, including A. Lange & Söhne's Odysseus, Oris' Pro Pilot X and Ressence's Type 8.
There are even some rumors that titanium could be the material of Patek Philippe's next generation of Nautilus. The fact that Rolex did test production of a titanium Yacht Master last year that leads to the expectation that a latest production Rolex model is coming soon.
Despite all the ups and downs in the world, the watch industry has been doing very well with record profits over the past few years. Watchmakers are feeling confident and energetic which shown quite clearly at the Watches and Wonders Geneva 2022 event.

The Rolex Day-Date was first launched in 1956. However, its history dates back to 1950, when a patent was filed in Switzerland for a watch that displayed both the day and the month on the dial.
The first Rolex Day-Date watches were produced in white, yellow, or rose gold with a domed bezel (ref.6510 version) or with a slotted bezel (ref.6511). These watch models were only produced for a year before being replaced by ref. 6611.
Entering the 1960s, Rolex Day-Date watch became famous and loved by world leaders.
The brand now offers the Rolex Day-Date in both 36 mm and 40 mm dial sizes, in platinum, rose gold, yellow gold and white gold. Additionally, the brand continues to produce a number of exclusive versions with diamond dials and bezels, bracelets and gem-set dials. These models typically have six-digit prices.
The Rolex Day-Date has a dial size of 36 mm which means that it is suitable for all genders.
Watches, especially ones with a long, sustainable production life don't usually double in price overnight. They tend to increase in price for many years. However, Rolex Day-Date is making a difference.
The Rolex Day-Date "Rainbow Khanjar" has a strong attraction. It is estimated that only 5 models will be released to the market. So it's extremely rare.
Besides, the watch model is exquisitely decorated by the brand. 18K white gold case, diamond dial and sapphire bezel. The bracelet part is set with diamonds.
In the near future, experts predict that Rolex Day-Date will get more attention. The auction price will be the most specific evidence. The Rolex Day-Date is the most recent Rolex watch to break the million dollar mark in the auction.
Until now, the Rolex Day-Date is still loved by many presidents, artists and NBA superstars. For many people, this watch model is a symbol of success.
After being auctioned for $1,330,000, the Rolex Day-Date deserves to be on Watch Collector's wish list.
II- 3 HOT ROLEX WATCHES: REVIEW
More than just a watch, Rolex have become a symbol of quality and luxury. Let’s find out more about some Hot Rolex Watches these days: Rolex Submariner, Rolex Daytona and Rolex Oyster Perpetual.
It is not exaggerated at all to say that Rolex is currently the King of luxury watches. It is the most recognizable luxury watch brand in the world and has many loyal customers who are willing to pay a big amount to own a Rolex watch. Built on different purposes, Rolex is not just simply used as jewelry or decoration like some of their peers. Rather, you will find many classic models of Rolex created for specific, functional purposes, such as the Rolex Submariner for diving or the Rolex Daytona for racing. Add to that, as time goes by, the Rolex watches will increase in value and for that reason, Rolex watches are considered a good investment. Today, we are going to know more about Rolex Submariner and Rolex Daytona and Rolex Oyster Perpetual.
1- Hot Rolex Watches: Rolex Submariner
The designs of Rolex watches have always been sophisticated and the Rolex Submariner is not out of this trend / ph: ©Rolex
The Rolex Submariner in stainless steel is among the most recognizable watches in the world. Making its debut in 1953, the stainless version still receives much love and support from the real Rolex fans, despite different options being added to the Rolex Submariner collection. The Rolex Submariner, together with the Rolex Oyster Perpetual, presents the advanced technology of waterproofness applying on luxury watches.
The designs of Rolex watches have always been sophisticated and the Rolex Submariner is not out of this trend. Its real attraction comes from traditional design and modern technology. The Rolex Submariner has a robust 804L Oyster steel, enhancing the timepiece’s resistance to corrosion. You definitely can expect an outstanding shiny appearance after polishing. There are also a set of four click-springs, allowing it easier to adjust the bezel. The feature making the luxury watch more supporting for deep drivers is the rotatable bezel because it can maintain an excellent grip even underwater.
2- Hot Rolex Watches: Rolex Daytona
Rolex Daytona watch is no doubt the best in its class for the plenty of life left in it / ph: ©Rolex
Do you know what is the price of the Rolex Daytona watch price when it was introduced in the market? $12,400. This time the company was bombarded with orders despite that sky-rocketing price of the Rolex Daytona watch. The bezel actually is the biggest update on the new Rolex Daytona which makes watch lovers excited. It not only refreshes the watch but also gives it a completely retro look. Rolex made its proprietary ceramic material, Cerachrom, into its product in 2005.
The combination of diamond polish finish, together with the properties of ceramic, makes it virtually scratchproof and impervious to color degradation. Thanks to this, you can expect your beloved Rolex Daytona watch to look new and super shiny. The Rolex Daytona watch’s tachymeter numbers do not have all the text on the same axis. Instead, it follows the curve of the bezel. With 72 hours of power reserve, the excellent caliber 4130 really beats away behind the dial (in which there is a black ring around the chronograph totalizers). A new chronograph movement definitely is not simple and the Rolex Daytona is no doubt the best in its class for the plenty of life left in it.
3- Hot Rolex Watches: Rolex Oyster Perpetual
The Rolex Oyster Perpetual watch price is much cheaper considering its peers like the Rolex Submariner / ph: ©Rolex
Whenever it comes to the Rolex Oyster Perpetual, the first thing we must talk about is that everything belonging to it is kept simple: the smooth, polished bezel, the dateless dial, brushed case, or snap-fit clasp. There is no big resistance, glossy ceramic, or reams of dial text here. The movement, of course, is not out of this trend. It is made in an old school way with a forty-eight-hour and chronometer-certified powertrain. The Rolex Oyster Perpetual watch price is much cheaper considering its peers like the Rolex Submariner. However, it still can live up to the dream because it is so plain, simple, frill-free, and basic. Thus, it is perfectly suited to the main concept of any Rolex watch: simple, rugged, and well-built watch.
The Single Porsche looks the part, sounds the part, and drives every bit as it is supposed to be. It gets new brakes, new suspension, new electrics, and a rebuilt engine. The Rolex Oyster Perpetual is nothing but a balance – the best of both worlds. Despite Rolex watch price, these timepieces are really appreciated by the world of professionals. This is because what they deliver, whether the Rolex Submariner, the Rolex Daytona, or the Rolex Oyster Perpetual, is much more than what a normal watch can. It is a massage of lifestyle.

In 2020, Ronaldo made $105 million from advertising contracts, including $45 million from Nike, Altice, Herbalife and his own brand CR7.
Rolex, as well as the Swiss watch industry, are facing a challenging business year due to the Covid-19 epidemic. Reputable and sought-after watch brand name on the market- Rolex continues to retain its charisma by winning the world\'s top stars\' hearts with a large following on social media.
IV- HOW TO SPOT A COUNTERFEIT ROLEX WATCH?
Rolex watch brand has been favored by watch fans for a long time because of the perfect and unique design. Due to this watch brand’s high price and popularity, a lot of fake Rolex watches have appeared on the market. So, how to spot a counterfeit Rolex watch to choose yourself an authentic one?
Rolex is a luxury watch brand which is favored by a lot of watch fans / Ph: pinterest
#1: Prices
Remember that a genuine Rolex watch will not cost just some millions or under $5,000. So, regardless of any reasons from buyers for those cheap prices, do not believe and choose other watch stores.
#2: Water-proof
All genuine Rolex watches are manufactured with extremely good waterproof feature. All Rolex watches have this special feature while many fake watches do not have: “Rolex Submariner watch is the only product designed for deep sea diving, but all Rolex watches are waterproof and totally protected”.
#3: Weight of the watch
Actually, real Rolex watch is heavier than the counterfeit goods because it is made from the best materials. In contrast, fake products are manufactured in cheap materials; therefore, they are lighter and not tight.
#4: Small symbol
Since 2002, Rolex began to apply the tiny crown symbol on the Sapphire crystal to protect the dial. This micro-brand logo is engraved at 6 o’clock. If you purchase a Rolex watch from 2002 onwards, look for this sign to authenticate the product.
#5: Magnification
According to William May Jewelry Association, a perfect Rolex watch usually has a small date sign. So, lens or magnifying glass is added to help people easily see that sign. The simplest way to distinguish is that the large lens on watch’s face of a real Rolex will zoom in right on the date point. Remember the 5 over recognitions for how to spot a counterfeit Rolex watch.
V- The rare Rolex Daytona model sells for $3.1 million
Surpassing all expectations, the Rolex Daytona with a turquoise dial just sold for $3.1 million.
The auction house Sotheby\'s has once again demonstrated how well-sought-after Rolex Daytona watches are. If last year, a platinum Rolex Cosmograph Daytona watch with a splendid lapis lazuli dial set a record with a price of 3.27 million USD, at a recent auction, Rolex Daytona watch code 16516 with a turquoise dial - a material never used in the Daytona range - continues to impress at a price tag of $3.1 million.
The rare Rolex Daytona model sells for $3.1 million / ph: Sotheby\'s
The Rolex Platinum Daytona Turquoise Dial code 16516 uses the Zenith 4030 movement, made in 1998 - at the end of the period when Rolex also used the automatic Zenith El Primero movement for the Daytona. As a reminder, Rolex started using the Zenith brand movement in 1988 and replaced it with its own in-house automatic chronograph movement from 2000 onwards.
The Rolex Platinum Daytona Turquoise Dial is said to be one of the only five Daytona that uses a platinum case and is equipped with a Zenith movement. Auction house Sotheby\'s once said that Rolex had produced many automatic Rolex Daytona watches, but the materials used mostly were stainless steel, white gold, gold gold or a blend of steel and gold over the years. The platinum Daytona version is extremely rare.
This watch is estimated to sell for $512,000 to $1,025 million. However, above all expectations, it was sold for 6 times the lowest estimated price.
The fact that Rolex watches are constantly being sold at high prices is proof that Rolex watches are a profitable investment, at least for the time being. Especially sports watch models like the Daytona, that is even more confirmed.
VI- LUXURY WATCHES BOOM IN DUBAI

The Millennials and Gen Z ready to spend a large amount of money to own rare pre-owned luxury watches.
It is reported that In Asia, both new and pre-owned luxury watches are selling well.
Phillips, the auction house from the UK, recorded a record when total sales for 2021 increased by $40 million compared to 2020. This auction house from the UK sold a platinum Patek Philippe Blue Royale and a gold Rolex Daytona chronograph model.
Both large and small watch manufacturers are responding fast to this consumer trend. Some watch makers like Rolex, Richard Mille and Omega are providing a number of services such as ensuring the authenticity of the pre-owned luxury watches, opening additional sales platforms,..
During the peak of the pandemic in 2020, Rolex encountered a shortage due to a production stoppage. As a result, demand for used Daytona and Submariner watch models is growing rapidly. On the other hand, the waiting list of watch buyers increases and the volume of products decreases which is making the pre-owned luxury watches market more active.
Watch Box (a brand specializing in buying, selling and exchanging watches) has opened a luxury lounge for customers in Hong Kong.
Chrono24 ( a leading marketplace for Luxury Watches since 2003) was a pioneer in buying and selling pre-owned luxury watches. The brand has grown into one of the world's largest watch markets with 500,000 daily visitors, 3,000 retail outlets and 30,000 private sellers.
Watchfinder & Co.'s watch maintenance service well accepted by customers. This service is certified by prestigious watch brands such as Panerai, Omega, IWC, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Cartier and Vacheron Constantin.
IX - DO WATCHES MAKE GOOD INVESTMENT?
Similar to the vintage car and furniture markets, the watch industry has seen an increase in the number of investors trying to make money by buying and selling watches over the past several decades. The auctions of the most expensive watch models in the world mainly take place at the top auction houses.
Do Watches Make Good Investment? / ph: pexels
In fact, most of the watches that are sold at extremely high prices come with inspirational stories, emotional connections like: owned by a celebrity, the first to travel in space or the only piece in a collection.
Furthermore, for a chance to buy one of these exclusive watches at auction, investors need a lot of money and good relationships. A personal item always has an invisible link with the person who created them or used them, so its value is sometimes even higher than an investment fund is earning tens of %.
Watches are not only tangible objects but also carry sentimental value which is why they are less susceptible to economic ups and downs. In the watch world, time seems to move more slowly without shocks or hasty deals. This is especially true for beloved and limited-edition classic watch models. Collectors who already have such precious timepieces rarely make the decision to sell, but once they do, it is a rare opportunity for latecomers. So what is the decision? The answer is “Buy at all costs!”.
For someone who does not consider a watch as an investment or is not a collector, a watch is just to wear it as an accessory or to watch the time. In that case, you may be interested in models in an accessible price range and preferably unchangeable price for a long time.
In contrast, a handful of watch brands offer their owners rare and vintage value that has been proven over the years. With vintage timepieces, every part of which is a testament to craftsmanship excellence, designs that have become the brand’s icon or technologies that represent a significant change in the watch industry. watches and create stories that link people and watches.
Rolex sports watches are a prime example. If you're trying to get your hands on a new Rolex Submariner, Daytona, Sea-Dweller or GMT-Master II, you'll have to wait in a long queue. But patience and a little luck will pay off, as these models always stay the same or increase in price over time, almost without exception. Needless to say, they are a pretty safe long-term investment.
A few other models also classified as potential investment are Omega Speedmaster Professional, Patek Phillippe Calatrava, Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso or Audemars Piguet Royal Oak - These watch icons represent the revolution in watch design and technology. Surprisingly, when it was introduced in 1972, the Royal Oak was not a huge hit, however the ratings have slowly changed over the period of the last 5 decades, and now this watch is one of the biggest icons in the luxury watch industry.
X - WHY IS PRE-OWNED LUXURY WATCH MARKET BOOMING?
The second-hand luxury goods market is booming. In 2021, the most sought-after accessory is watch.
According to a report by The RealReal - a marketplace specializing in retail of luxury goods, customers are spending $1,600 more compared to 2020 on used watches.
Meanwhile, consignment website Fashionphile says searches related to “watch” term are up 73% since 2020 and searches related to women's watches have increased by 92% since 2020.
According to McKinsey, an US-based consulting firm, the used watch market has a total value of 18 billion USD in 2018. By 2025, it is predicted to increase in value to 30 billion USD.
Why is Pre-owned Luxury Watch Market booming? / ph: pexels
The number of people interested in owning luxury watches is increasing. However, famous watch brands as Patek Philippe, Rolex, Audemars Piguet and Richard Mille continue to limit their products to ensure exclusivity and quality.
Watch brands have produced less watches than before due to the impact of the pandemic that has caused many production sites to close and supply chain issues to be affected. These factors make many people look to buy used watches and their prices are trending up. However, scarcity is not the only reason driving the second-hand watch craze.
The popularity of luxury resale sites is also a reason for the boom in the second hand watch market.
Besides, the price difference between resale watches and new products greatly affects consumers' thinking. Some Cartier and Rolex watches retain their value even when resold. However, watches from other brands are resold at lower prices.
Buyers do not need to go to the store to get information related to the watch model is available online. This gives customers more time to think twice before investing in this expensive accessory.
The popularity of used watches is one of the factors that show that the second-hand luxury market is booming. Since the outbreak of the pandemic, buyers have become interested in durable, good-quality watches. On Rebag, most watches sell out within a few days.
Some other buyers are looking for watches as emotional attachments. According to global fashion search engine Lyst, interest in searching terms of couples, engagement and wedding watches increased by 42%.
The demand for used watches is predicted to continuously increase.
